Grey Crowned Crane in the rain, watching it's egg...
While we ran to find some shelter, this awesome tropical bird, at first, seemed undisturbed when it started raining...
So I decided to risk the shower too, and make some pics of the breeding bird.

When we came back after another walk and a visit to an inside exhibit, a few hours later, it was even raining harder, and the bird surprised us with a view on her single egg, and... I got my second shower

Grey Crowned Crane (Lat.: Balearica regulorum , Dutch: Grijze Kroonkraanvogel "Wikipedia":[link]) occurs in dry savannah in Africa south of the Sahara, although it nests in somewhat wetter habitats. This animal does not migrate.
The nest is a platform of grass and other plants in tall wetland vegetation. The Grey Crowned Crane lays a clutch of 2-5 eggs. Incubation is performed by both sexes and lasts 28–31 days. Chicks fledge at 56–100 days.
Like all cranes, it feeds on insects and other invertebrates, reptiles, small mammals, as well as grass seeds.

The Grey Crowned Crane is the national bird of Uganda and features in the country's flag and coat of arms.

Endangered
Grey crowned cranes are on the IUCN list of threatened species, status: Vulnerable.
Although the Grey Crowned Crane remains common over much of its range, it faces threats to its habitat due to drainage, overgrazing, and pesticide pollution. (Source: "Wikipedia":[link])
